The Multicultural Alliance of Fort Worth traces its lineage back 80 years to the founding of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, an organization devoted to the elimination of bias, bigotry, and racism in the United States. In 1950, the Fort Worth, Texas chapter was created. The organization promotes understanding and respect among all races, religions, and cultures through advocacy, conflict resolution, and education. In affirmation of the founding principles, the organization exists to promote individual and group dignity, cooperation, mutual understanding, and respect among all peoples. While the name has changed, locally the goals - after eight decades - still remain largely unchanged. We're dedicated to eliminating bias, bigotry and racism in this nation. The Alliance promotes understanding and respect among all races, religions and cultures through advocacy programs, conflict resolution, education and shared experiences. We realize change can be difficult, and slow to take place, but we also know the changes that have taken place since the founding of our organization are almost revolutionary. We chose "not to curse the darkness," but rather "to light a candle." We have lit many candles in behalf of racial, religious and human freedom. We invite those who are interested in our cause to join and help us in expanding and intensifying this ongoing local and national crusade against bias, bigotry and racism. The ultimate goal is to achieve a society in which the ideals of equality and justice shall become the standard of all human relationships. Whenever, wherever, and however possible, it shall establish the pattern of all people standing and working diligently to be a voice for justice in our community. |
