What is Camp CommUNITY?

Camp CommUNITY provides Delegates with a place to voice opinions and create experiences, a place to be expressive, and a place to
belong. Camp CommUNITY is a five-day residential leadership camp designed to educate Delegates to be responsible leaders and
social change advocates in our diverse community. At Camp CommUNITY approximately 60 entering junior and senior high school
students in Tarrant County of various backgrounds, identities, beliefs, and experiences, come together to heighten personal awareness,
build meaningful friendships, and promote positive social change. Through interactive activities, Delegates are given the opportunity to
grow as an individual and as part of a community. Delegates learn valuable cross-cultural communication skills.

The Camp CommUNITY experience has been designed to provoke serious thought and self expression. Some of the components
include:

Small Group Discussions and Share Groups

These groups create a subset of the camp experience to support Delegates in building relationships based on honesty,
understanding, and respect. They also provide a space to reflect on the camp experience.

    Workshops

Workshops create opportunities for the Delegates to begin to discuss the difficult and more contentious issues in a
productive and meaningful way. In the process, Delegates are encouraged to expand their capacity for critical reflection
and deepen their understanding of each other.

    Evening Program

Delegates and staff relax and express their creativity during evening programming, through such activities as cultural
expressions, talent shows, and campfire sharing.

Camp CommUNITY Staff

The dedicated volunteer staff includes college-aged Counselors, adult Advisors and Co-Directors. The Counselors, many of whom are
past Delegates, provide guidance and live with the Delegates in cabins. The Advisors facilitate activities and the Co-Directors manage
the overall camp. The entire staff is trained and attentive. Many of the staff members return year after year (some taking personal vacation
time) to make this experience possible.
